This non-monetary honorary ward recognizes conspicuous gallantry, extraordinary heroism and courage in the face of significant and known risk (including risk to life and limb) above and beyond the call of duty, performed in response to a threat to the national security.  The Intelligence Cross will be awarded on a highly selective and rare basis.
